The Interview

Glinting. That’s its specialty.

My people did not think it was odd I had taken to this small hut in the shadow of…

What? No, I hadn’t thought I would see it happen. Well, not that it wouldn’t happen, but I wouldn’t be here. I underestimated the pull of it. I’ve been there, at night when mother nature’s guard is down. There are noises. Many said it was just the wind. But I got closer, you see. It looked like parts of it were peeling and…there may be a weapon under there. But my eyes, for some reason they started to cross when I got too close and I fell to the ground and only just dragged myself away before I passed out.

Why does it not rot?

The trees refuse to live or die. It’s fucking purgatory out there!

No, no. They say that, but it’s not true. I have lived here for 17 years. THEY are only stuffed shirts behind high walls.

I’m telling you, IT BREATHS. I heard it.

No, I’m quite certain I took those pictures. I think the weapon is being born. Is that crazy? Is it crazy to say it as such?

They installed the boundaries just recently. I don’t know why. But all new noises have started to happen. Even if I sneak like a rabbit, I can’t get close enough to be absolutely sure…

I had heard of this thing, lodged in the earth, smashed here some 47 years ago. Again, why does it not rot? I came thinking, this is my quest. This is my destiny. I wanted nothing more than to understand it, to guard it. They tried to kick me out of my hut, but it’s public land. I am the public! See that. So we made a deal. But they stopped listening to me! I told them and told them…but you see…

No, I don’t want to talk anymore. It’s not going to be here much longer, that’s all I want you to report, ok?

Tell them. It’s going. And I have no idea where or why but its armed.

Now get out of here.
